The International Council of Nurses (ICN) is a federation of over 130 national nurses associations (NNAs), representing the over 28 million nurses worldwide. Founded in 1899, ICN is the world’s first and widest reaching international organisation for health professionals.

ICN mission, vision, constitution and strategic plan

ICN’s mission is to represent nursing worldwide, advance the nursing profession, promote the wellbeing of nurses, and advocate for health in all policies.


From strategic planning to operational implementation, ICN’s structure enables us to achieve our mission.


Working together with trusted partners, ICN is able to implement several projects supported by funding external to our core budget.

NP/APN Network

The ICN Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practice Nurse Network (NP/APN Network) was established more than 20 years ago as an official ICN affiliate group.
