The biennial ICN Congress is where nurses of the world meet to discuss policies and share best practices
Geneva, Switzerland, 24 June 2019 – More than 5,000 nurses from 120-plus countries are descending on Singapore for the world’s greatest gathering of nurses at the ICN Congress.
The Congress, which runs from 27 June till 1 July, is being hosted by the Singapore Nurses Association. This international gathering of thousands of nurses will explore the many ways in which nurses work to achieve universal access to health, not only providing health care, but also addressing the social determinants of health, including education, gender equality and poverty.
ICN President Annette Kennedy said:
“The theme of this Congress is Beyond Healthcare to Health. This will never be achieved without investment in nursing and nurses, without nurses being involved in policy at all levels. Nurses working from birth to death across all spectrums of health and illness have unique knowledge about societies’ health care needs.
This Congress will inform nurses about ICN’s work, health care and nursing issues globally. It will encourage nurses as patient advocates to contribute to health policy at national, regional and local level. It is imperative to have the nursing voice at the policy table. “
As well as providing opportunities for nurses to build relationships and disseminate best practices in nursing and health-related knowledge, this Congress will also mark ICN’s 120th anniversary with an exhibition detailing the organisation’s illustrious history from its early beginnings to its current status, representing the more than 20 million nurses from 120-plus countries.
Prior to the Congress, the Council of National Nursing Association Representatives, ICN’s global governing body, will convene from 25-27 June 2019.
