The International Council of Nurses (ICN) is a federation of more than 130 national nurses associations (NNAs), representing the more than 20 million nurses worldwide. Founded in 1899, ICN is the world’s first and widest reaching international organisation for health professionals. Operated by nurses and leading nurses internationally, ICN works to ensure quality nursing care for all, sound health policies globally, the advancement of nursing knowledge, and the presence worldwide of a respected nursing profession and a competent and satisfied nursing workforce.
ICN welcomes the implementation of a six-week ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, calls for sustained, permanent peace and emphasizes the critical need for long-term support and humanitarian relief in the region.

On the first day of the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos, the WEF has released a video interview with Howard Catton, CEO of the International Council of Nurses (ICN). The video relays ICN’s key messages on the economic power of care and the need for investment in nursing and is a direct call for action to global leaders gathered in Davos.

ICN has selected Nashville, Tennessee, as the site of the 14th ICN Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practice Nurse Network Conference. Vanderbilt University School of Nursing will host the event, which will be held 14-17 September 2026.
