Welcome to the Order of Nurses and Midwives of Romania, the authoritative body overseeing the nursing and midwifery professions nationwide. Our central role is to regulate, maintain, and elevate the standards of nursing and midwifery practice in Romania.

Key functions

As the national regulatory authority, we manage the comprehensive register encompassing nurses, midwives, healthcare technicians, and caregivers. Our mandate extends to the issuance, renewal, and, when necessary, suspension of licenses for nurses and midwives. It is mandatory for nurses and midwives to be registered and hold valid licenses to practice autonomously, while health technicians and caregivers are listed in the register without requiring a license.

We are not just about administration; we are committed to ensuring the utmost professionalism, quality, and safety in nursing and midwifery. We conduct professional supervision and collaborate closely with the Ministry of Health to define specializations and administer specialist exams.

Our organization, the Order of Nurses and Midwives of Romania, is a professional, non-governmental, and non-profit association representing generalist nurses, midwives, and medical assistants.

We operate as the competent authority for regulating these professions, with responsibilities delegated by the state authority, while also serving as an advisory body to the Ministry of Health.

We are dedicated to establishing and upholding standards for registration, practice, continuous education, ethics, and professional conduct. Over time, we have played a pivotal role in advancing these professions, aligning with EU norms, creating autonomous practice framework, and implementing various initiatives, including an integrated electronic member registry and a free-of -charge continuous development online platform for our members.

Internationally, we hold membership in the International Council of Nurses and the European Nursing Council, fostering productive collaborations within and beyond the European Union. Additionally, our close ties with the World Health Organization and our role as the host organization for the South Eastern European Regional Development Centre for Nursing and Midwifery further underscore our commitment to advancing nursing and midwifery practices in the SEE region and worldwide.

At the Order of Nurses and Midwives of Romania, we are driven by a relentless pursuit of excellence, determined to enhance patient care, and dedicated to shaping the future of nursing and midwifery. Join us in our mission to raise healthcare standards and empower nursing and midwifery professionals across Romania and beyond.
