The International Council of Nurses (ICN) is pleased to welcome the Colegio de Profesionales de Enfermería de Guatemala (CPEG) as its newest National Nursing Association member, strengthening the global voice of nursing and expanding ICN’s representation of nurses worldwide.
The admission of CPEG reflects the growing strength and organization of the nursing profession in Guatemala and marks an important milestone for nurses in the country.
Founded through the collective efforts of nursing professionals seeking a dedicated space for professional representation and advocacy, the Colegio de Profesionales de Enfermería de Guatemala was formally established in 2014 following years of work supported by Guatemala’s Nursing Law, Decreto 07-2007. Today, the organization plays a key role in promoting professional ethics, scientific and technical development, quality nursing care, and the protection of the nursing profession in Guatemala.
ICN President José Luis Cobos Serrano welcomed the association into the global ICN family.
“ICN is proud to welcome the Colegio de Profesionales de Enfermería de Guatemala to our global community of National Nursing Associations. The nurses of Guatemala make an essential contribution to the health and wellbeing of their people and communities every day. By joining ICN, their voice becomes even stronger within the international nursing movement as we work together to advance the profession, strengthen health systems, and advocate for investment in nursing and nurses everywhere.”
Dr Orfa Nineth Morales Padilla, President of the Colegio de Profesionales de Enfermería de Guatemala, said:
“Nursing today needs to believe in, demonstrate, project and trust everything that strengthens it, accompanies it, defends it and gives it visibility within health systems. Its voice and presence must be firmly consolidated to face adversity and intervene in a timely manner in favour of safe, humane and inclusive care. Thanks to the International Council of Nurses for welcoming us, representing us and promoting the integral wellbeing of nurses around the world.”
CPEG’s mission is to strengthen the nursing profession through scientific and technical development, professional advocacy, the promotion of solidarity among colleagues, and support for public health administration. The organization also works to protect the profession against illegal practice and to uphold the dignity, legitimacy, and quality of nursing care in Guatemala.
ICN looks forward to working closely with CPEG to advance nursing leadership, professional development, safe and quality care, and the wellbeing of nurses in Guatemala and globally.
